Adams Apple Incense Headshop

After 52 years in business, Adam’s Apple will continue serving the United States and world at large. The city’s longest-running head shop at 6229 N. California Ave has and will always provide excellent customer service and fine product quality

How We Started

Adams Apple Incense Headshop first opened its doors in 1969 after Sheldon Miller, now 75, and an ex-partner took over the struggling business from a couple selling copies of 8-tracks, along with pipes and rolling papers. Later on, the head shop stepped up to selling more in-demand products such as herbal incenses and more

Our Evolution

Adam’s Apple is Chicago’s oldest head shop, in West Ridge. Head shops used to be the place for people to find rolling papers and other paraphernalia used to smoke marijuana, But as with the times, Adams Apple evolved to the sales of herbal incense, Alchohol incense and A few research chemicals

About our online store

Adam’s Apple opened in spring 1969. In the early days, it was one of the few places in the city to buy rolling papers and other paraphernalia for the burgeoning pot culture, Miller said.

In the ’70s and ’80s, Adam’s Apple served as a destination for thousands of North Side teens looking for tie dyes and flared jeans, all the while combating neighbor and police concerns over such establishments.

Today, the shop serves as a blast from the past with a feel for evolution, offering supplies such as herbal incense, bath salts, spice papers and more. The dank, below-grade shop is filled with stickers, posters and other decor that is indicative of such head shops. But few shops in the city can claim this level of counterculture authenticity.

In 2018, Adam’s Apple was named one of 10 legendary head shops by High Times Magazine.

“I haven’t been able to wrap my head around it,” Miller said of his store’s longevity. “I don’t know if it’s personality, but definitely quality merch and fair prices. And something people forget: customer service.”

One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff.
